EBI History

Founded in 1858 as Elmira Business and Shorthand College, EBI is dedicated to helping people and the community. This trade school, a leader in postsecondary education, was located just blocks from EBI’s current location at Langdon Plaza in Elmira, New York. EBI is now in a new building, equipped with the proper facilities and lab equipment as a supplement to classroom learning. In 2003, EBI opened their second location in the Vestal area, and is currently the only career school in this area.

    Business, Marketing, and Communication

    In today’s business world, accounting services are indispensable to the operation of every business enterprise.

    As more businesses continue to computerize financial records, accountants need to be technologically savvy. EBI’s Accounting program can prepare you to develop the necessary analytical, conceptual, and technical skills you need to be successful in the accounting industry.

    The accounting curriculum is designed to add depth and maturity to the student’s professional background. Courses include Principles of Accounting, Computerized Accounting Systems, Income Tax, and Business Organization/Management. Because it is a degree program, you will also be required to complete Communications, Economics, and College Writing courses to round out your educational experience.

    Accountants prepare and examine financial records. They ensure that financial records are accurate and that taxes are paid properly and on time. Accountants and auditors assess financial operations and work to help ensure that organizations run efficiently.

    During training, you can learn to write an individual business plan, understand the basic of managing a small firm, and implementing a marketing plan. Classes include Business Mathematics, Principles of Management, Introduction to Entrepreneurship, and Small Business Management.

    Medical Billing & Coding courses
    Courses in medical coding & billing focus on diagnostic and procedural codes (ICD-10-CM or HCPCS codes) to record individual patient health information for data retrieval, analysis and claims processing. Courses include Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Office Procedures, and Medical Law and Ethics.

Courses include Clerical Accounting, Medical Law & Ethics, and Electronic Medical Records. After completing the program, students will qualify to sit for the AAMA Medical Assisting Certification exam.

EBI is authorized by the New York State Board of Regents to award the Associate in Occupational Studies (A.O.S.) Degree in Accounting, Office Technologies, Medical Assisting, Medical Coding and Billing Reimbursement Specialist, Business Administration with concentrations in Financial Services, Human Resources and Small Business Management and its programs are registered with the New York State Education Department.

Accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools.

Only the EBI Associate in Occupational Studies (Two-Year) Medical Assisting Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), on recommendation of the Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants Endowment (CRB-AAMAE).
