Delta Technical College is a year-round school providing vocational training in mechanical trades and allied health career fields where job growth is expected.

Midwest Technical Institute, Delta Tech’s sister school, was founded in 1995 in Lincoln, Illinois. Since opening its doors as Delta Technical College in 2004, Delta Tech has achieved many milestones, including receiving national accreditation for its course offerings, and expanding our programs and courses beyond the original welding program.

Delta Tech has always taken great pride in touching the lives of students by giving them the hands-on workforce training they need to be successful. After over twenty years and thousands of students, that goal has remained the same.

Our mission is to offer workforce training that will provide graduates with the skills necessary to gain entry-level employment in their chosen field.

Program Duration

At Delta Tech, we understand the importance of completing training programs and courses in a timely manner. We offer a variety of accelerated programs in the allied health and mechanical trades fields, where you’ll have the opportunity to complete most programs and courses in less than one year.

Your life is busy and your time is valuable. We understand that. Most programs and courses at Delta Tech offer a variety of class times (including daytime and evenings), so you can learn when it is convenient for you.

    • Journeyman Welder +

      Program Description

      The Journeyman Welder Program prepares students for entry-level employment in the welding field. Delta Tech’s welding program provides students the skills and hands-on training needed to become a proficient pipe welder using SMAW and TIG processes. Welding classes teach students MIG & flux core welding and provide students skills in pipe welding and manufacturing.

      Delta Tech’s welding training also teach field and shop safety, pipe fitting skills and basic blueprint readings. The Journeyman Welder Program offers a greater scope of welding processes and allows the student additional time to become polished in a certain specialty.

      Students will receive Delta Tech welding certifications (see Delta Tech Journeyman Welder Certifications section below) and, upon meeting graduation requirements of the program, the student will receive a diploma.

    • Electrician +

      Program Description

      The Industrial, Commercial & Residential (I/C/R) Electrician Program provides students the skills and training necessary to gain entry-level employment in the electrician industry.

      The electrician program provides a series of hands-on exercises as well as classroom instruction. Delta Tech’s electrician trade program teaches students basic electrical theory, mathematics, wiring, load calculations, motors and electrical controls. Students also learn field and shop safety.

      The objective of Delta Tech’s electrical training is for students to gain entry-level employment as an electrician, electrician’s helper or electrical apprentice.

    • HVAC/R - MAR Technician +

      Program Description

      Delta Tech’s HVAC/R–MAR (Refrigeration and Major Appliance Repair) Technician Program provides students installation, repair and maintenance training for the heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration industry. The HVAC program also provides installation and repair training for the major appliance industry.

      HVAC training at Delta Tech includes extensive hands-on experience as well as theory, equipment components and operation. Students gain the basic knowledge and skills needed to become an entry-level employee in the HVAC/R-MAR industries.

      Successful completion of the program will entitle the student to a diploma in HVAC/R-MAR. The student is also required to take and pass the EPA Section 608* Core certification exams.

      *The student must take and pass the Core Type I and Type II certification exams.

      Program Description

      Delta Tech’s Cosmetology Program provides students with entry-level skills relating to hair, nails and skin with an emphasis on hygiene, sanitation, customer relations and salon management.

      Cosmetology classes at Delta Tech provide the student with theory and skills training in basic haircutting, hair styling and hair coloring. Cosmetology training also includes nail and skin care education.

      After completing Delta Tech’s cosmetology school, the graduate will be able to perform the basic facial, including but not limited to, masks, specialized facials and manual care. The graduate will also leave with confidence in manicuring, pedicuring and advanced nail services. He/she will also have a working knowledge of industry sanitation and disinfection practices.

  • Medical Administration
    • Medical Coding Specialist +

      Program Description

      The Medical Coding Specialist Program provides students the skills and knowledge required for entry-level positions in the medical coding field. Medical coders typically work in medical offices, clinics, hospitals and insurance companies as a part of the healthcare team.

      Delta Tech’s medical coding training instructs students in the analysis of medical records (charts) and the assignment of codes. “Coding” refers to transforming the written or verbal description of diseases, injuries and procedures into numerical designations. Medical coders index diagnoses and procedures to provide information for reimbursement purposes.

      Medical coding classes also include anatomy and medical terminology. Students will learn about diseases that affect the human body, etiology, pathology, symptoms, signs, diagnostics and treatment in order to properly code medical records. Delta Tech’s medical coding program gives students the training needed to become familiar with the content of a medical record. Students will learn to locate the necessary information to support or provide specificity for accurate coding.

      For medical coding certification, students can sit for the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Exam that is administered by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) upon graduation from the Medical Coding Specialist Program.

    • Dental Assisting +

      Program Description

      The Dental Assisting Program at Delta Technical College provides entry-level theory and hands-on training in basic and routine clinical and office tasks. This program will equip the dental assistant with the skills required to perform in a clinical, laboratory or office setting.

      Delta Tech’s dental assistant program will prepare students to assist in laboratory procedures, x-ray procedures, CPR and patient assessments. He/she will also be able to perform sterilization and infection control techniques, clinical procedures and equipment maintenance. In some venues, the dental assistant is expected to effectively handle administrative office procedures, including electronic record keeping, keyboarding, billing, coding, insurance claims and scheduling.

      Delta Tech’s dental assistant training provides students a thorough understanding of dental-related ethics and other business principles that impact the physician’s relationship with the patient. Delta Tech also offers a continuing education course in dental radiology.

      For dental assistant certification, students are required to take DANB certification (Dental Assisting National Board) which includes: RHS (Radiology Health & Safety) and ICE (Infection Control Exam).

    • Medical Assisting +

      Program Description

      The Medical Assisting Program at Delta Tech provides entry-level theory and hands-on training in basic and routine clinical and administrative tasks. Medical assistant training provides students the skills needed to perform in either a clinical or office capacity.

      The graduate will be able to assist in EKG, x-ray procedures, first aid and phlebotomy. Delta Tech’s medical assistant program also gives students hands-on training to perform clinical procedures, prep a patient for physical exams and assist the physician with other exams. The medical assistant may also help the physician with minor surgical procedures and can sterilize and care for instruments.

      In some cases, the medical assistant is expected to effectively handle administrative office procedures including digital record keeping, inputting data, billing, coding, scheduling, transcribing and handling insurance claims.

      The medical assistant possesses a thorough understanding of health-related ethics and other business principles affecting the doctor’s relationship with the patient. For medical assistant certification, Delta Tech prepares students to take the Nation Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) National Medical Assistant (NCMA) Certification Exam at the end of the externship.

  • Truck Driving, Transportation, and Mechanics

      Program Description

      The 20-day CDL (commercial driver’s license) Training Course teaches students procedures and techniques through hands-on experience and classroom theory. Through Delta Tech’s CDL training, students will learn how to correctly and safely perform required skill standards and be trained for an entry-level position.

      Delta Tech’s CDL course will help prepare the student to pass the state licensing exam and obtain a CDL with the issuing state. The CDL classes provide the student knowledge of the issuing state’s CDL, driver safety, air brakes, combination vehicles, log books, trip planning, public and employee relations requirements.

      Upon meeting completion requirements of the course, the student is entitled to a certificate of completion.
