    Building & Construction

    If you want a career without the boring, daily routine of being stuck in an office, it's time to check out the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) program at Southern Careers Institute. This program prepares students for positions at both the commercial and residential levels of HVAC.

    The HVAC program at SCI will teach you how to install, maintain, and repair essential temperature control equipment. You will learn by doing, alongside students just like you. As part of the SCI family, you will learn in a supportive, interactive environment from instructors who care about your success.

    At Southern Careers Institute, the HVAC program focuses on those skills you'll actually use in the real world. You will train on a variety of cooling and heating systems common to the industry and receive instruction on piping using a wide variety of materials.     SCI will prepare you for welding safety, machine set-up, basic metallurgy, shop math, blueprint reading and welding symbols. You'll learn from knowledgeable instructors in a hands-on environment.

    After graduation, you may work in fabrication, cutting, soldering or brazing and the career services team will assist you with launching your career by helping prepare your resume, working with you on interview skills and networking with local employers.

  • Electrical Technician
    Building & Construction

    The Electrical Technician program provides students with basic theoretical knowledge and skills on installation, operation, maintenance and repair of electrical apparatus and systems for both residential and commercial properties. Students are given instruction in the principles of electronics and electrical systems, wiring, power transmission, safety, appliances, estimation, testing, inspection, and applicable codes and standards. Note: required hours of “on the job training” beyond the completion of this program are necessary to apply for Texas state licensing. The Electrical Technician program prepares graduates for a career in the Electrician field at an apprentice level. Students will have the opportunity to learn the operation, installation, maintenance and repair essentials of electrical wiring, instrumentation, services and panels, and motors and motor controls. The knowledge and skills acquired in this program prepares graduates to begin working, under a Master Electrician, toward accumulation of required hours for state licensing. With these skills, graduates may find entry-level employment as wiring installers or technicians servicing electrical, instrumentation systems and/motors in a number of electrical and related trades. The average length of the program is 27 weeks for full time students.

    Cyber Analysis is a popular and rewarding field where you protect businesses, organizations, and people from online threats. It involves keeping sensitive information safe, defending against cyber-attacks, and stopping hackers from causing financial harm.

    The one-year Cyber Analyst Training Program offers a 33-week curriculum complemented by a 26-week paid internship which overlaps with the latter half of the coursework and is secured on behalf of the student by the Cybersecurity and Emerging Technologies Academy. The program is 100% online and covers more content than boot camps typically offer for industry certifications. Additionally, the curriculum is employer-tailored, ensuring that it is up-to-date and advantageous to those looking to start a career in cybersecurity.

    The Security Foundations course will help students gain a fundamental understanding of security concepts that will be used throughout the Cyber Security track.
