Medicine and Health Care
Medical Assistants are a very important part of the doctor’s team, supporting both the administration of the office and engaging in clinical duties. While the role of a Medical Assistant can vary by state and the office they work in, the role requires you to possess both interpersonal and technical skills. Medical Assistant duties can be broken into three categories – clerical duties, clinical duties, and bedside manner.
Clinical Duties Include:
- Prepare patients for x-rays or other procedures
- Sterilize medical instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies
- Change dressings
- Give shots
- Draw blood and prepare bloodwork for the lab
By providing assistance to the doctor, the Medical Assistant ensures that the patient receives the best healthcare possible. You provide support to the doctor by handling routine tasks, leaving them available to examine other patients.
