- Define the term "diaspora" and describe the history, scope and impact of the post-Renaissance diaspora of African peoples

- Apply methodological approaches and analytical skills used in the humanities, the social and behavioral sciences, or the arts to the study of the experiences of Africans and people of African descent in the Diaspora

Students who choose the African American literature concentration will find engaging and challenging courses that emphasize close analytic reading skills and critical thinking. Students who choose the Professional Writing concentration will learn communication skills that prepare them for careers in dynamic fields such as business, publishing and technology. All students who successfully complete the Bachelor of Arts degree in English learn to appreciate the importance of the written word and develop skills which will lead to a life of community engagement and personal growth.

Liberal Arts, Humanities, and LiteratureOnline B.A. and M.A. program in History, courses taught by dedicated online instructors and tenure/tenure-track faculty, ranging from ancient to modern content, global in scope. Full range of courses are available to B.A. students, including internships, directed readings courses, and most of the courses currently offered in the undergraduate catalog. M.A. offerings broad in scope and scale, but currently the Egyptology concentration is not available online. All students receive comprehensive advising, including career counseling, graduate school workshops, and exposure to other professional development opportunities.
