Students in UTI’s Welding program learn about the procedures and equipment required to weld using gas metal arc (GMAW), shielded metal arc (SMAW), flux-cored arc (FCAW) and gas tungsten arc (GTAW) welders. Students also learn how to weld in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions used for plate or sheet metal, and the fixed, rolling and overhead positions used for pipe.

Developed in conjunction with Lincoln Electric, UTI’s Welding training program curriculum includes MIG, TIG, stick and flux-cored welding processes throughout the 12 hands-on courses.

The heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) program is designed to prepare you to pursue a career in less than a year(1). This program prepares students for entry-level careers such as HVACR technician, installation technician and refrigeration technician, just to name a few(77). In addition to learning various systems, you’ll prepare to test for certifications that are valued by the industry.

Working on HVACR systems requires an awareness of safety procedures, knowledge of heating and cooling, familiarity with tools used in the industry, and the ability to perform a variety of manual skills. In the program, you’ll learn all of this and more. Some key topics covered in the program include:

Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI) makes it easy to structure your training program as you prepare for your career. You’ll get the hands-on experience in state-of-the-industry technology and equipment as you train to perform routine service, diagnose mechanical and electrical systems, and make necessary repairs and replacement.

Your first 18 weeks at MMI are spent learning the foundational knowledge of motorcycle technology with real hands-on experience from instructors who collectively offer decades of industry expertise. From there, students move on to specialized training created with one or more of six leading manufacturers.

At MMI, you’ll start your motorcycle technician training with a strong core program that combines classroom preparation and hands-on experience. The Motorcycle Technician Prerequisite (MTP) program covers the key components of motorcycle technology and serves as a foundation for your professional development.

Learn by doing during your automotive mechanic training as you take on the maintenance and repair of both import and domestic vehicles. You'll work on everything from simple engine systems to power and performance machines. With UTI's Automotive Technology program, you'll earn credit toward professional automotive mechanic certifications, gain industry-related experience and prepare yourself for an in-demand career that fits your passion.

In less than a year, you could be a trained automotive technician*7. It all starts with completing a core program at one of our auto mechanic schools. These foundational courses build your base knowledge from the ground up, teaching you how to diagnose, maintain and repair domestic and foreign vehicles like a true automotive professional. From here, you can move on to Manufacturer-Specific Advanced Training courses*15.

Our campuses feature a blended learning model, which combines instructor-led online training with hands-on application in the lab*18. This training provides more flexibility for you as a student and also prepares you for the type of training you’ll experience in the field.

While our Automotive Technology program is not an online mechanic school, students typically spend about half their day completing online coursework and about half in the lab.

In less than a year(7) you could train to be a diesel technician. It all starts with completing a core diesel program. These foundational courses build your base knowledge from the ground up, teaching you how to diagnose, repair, and replace like a true big engine professional. From here, you can move on to specialized advanced training on diesel trucks and engines from leading brands.

The Diesel program follows a blended learning model, which includes a mix of online instructor-led training with hands-on application in the lab(18). This allows students to experience what training is like in the workforce and offers more flexibility with schedules.

UTI is not an online diesel mechanic school, but students will spend about half of a typical six-hour day on online coursework. The other half is typically spent in the lab.

Accidents happen on the roadways, and trained auto body technicians are needed to fix the damage. UTI's certified instructors bring real-world industry experience to teach you the skills needed to reshape and restore a wide range of vehicles. Universal Technical Institute’s Collision Repair & Refinish Technology (CRRT) program was developed in close partnership with I-CAR, the provider of collision repair training standards as defined by the industry, including car manufacturers, insurance companies and employers.

Refinish technicians, also known as automotive painters or paint technicians, are trained to mix and apply paint to the surface of a vehicle and help restore it to pre-accident condition.

To learn how to paint cars, most automotive painters go through some sort of formal training and education to gain the skills they need. Attending a program at a trade school can be the best place to start for those interested in the career path.

Automotive Painting Courses

UTI’s CRRT program features several auto body repair courses, including ones that cover how to refinish and paint vehicles:

• Introduction to Refinishing: Students learn procedures for paint removal.
• Vehicle Preparation for Painting: This course covers color characteristics, mixing paint from vehicle codes and obtaining blendable matches.
• Finish Applications: In this course, the principles of blending are covered, as well as how to identify and solve paint application/finish problems.
• Skills Application: Training from previous courses is applied; students apply paint to panels and final details to restore vehicles to like-new condition.
• Custom Paint Fundamentals: Airbrush techniques and special-effect paint techniques are covered in this course.

While the CRRT program does not specifically teach car painting, students learn fundamentals and gain experience that they could apply to a career as a paint technician once they graduate.

Nowadays, more and more emphasis is being placed on generating energy with cost-efficient, environmentally friendly sources. This has created a variety of career avenues that can be pursued in the energy industry. In just 30 weeks, students in the Wind Turbine Technician training program gain the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to become wind turbine technician(1).

Wind turbine technicians inspect and service wind turbine towers. This is typically done by climbing a ladder inside the turbine or riding an elevator to the desired working height. In some cases, they’re lifted by helicopter!

Students in this program learn the skills they need to feel confident working in entry-level positions. Most of our grads start out working as entry-level technicians or in other entry-level roles. As with any industry, over time, you may be able to advance in your career with hard work. Some entry-level and advanced roles could include(77):
