    Building & Construction

Since its inception, the Comprehensive Industrial Welding Program has grown and advanced based on feedback received from our students and our industry partners. We take a hands-on, project based approach to our educational programs, providing expert faculty support with deep industry experience. Our fast track, intensive courses not only build useful skill sets for our students but also produces workforce ready employees who are in great demand and highly compensated. Most employers will agree that it takes more than talent to excel in the workplace. Our programs provide students with the support, knowledge and hands on application they need to become qualified and employable.

IAI courses are taught by instructors who are AWS Certified Welding Inspectors & Educators with years of experience in the Welding & Fabricating Industry. They are some of the most skillful and experienced professionals in the industry and provide real world, hands on training and expertise that will fully prepare their students to be successful.

The student’s classroom time will begin with a focus on welding fundamentals to include safety, equipment used for the various welding processes, and electrical principles related to welding. The student will be involved in blueprint reading, shop drawings, related math and weld symbols and the integration of these disciplines in welding and fabrication. Each welding process will be covered in depth using a combination of textbooks, media, and visual aids to ensure the student comprehends the instruction and requirements in the lab.

Students may also have the opportunity to participate in a one week work practicum with one of our corporate partners which allows them to be mentored by experienced welders/fabricators to continue to develop real – world skills. Additionally, students work as a team to produce an Integrated Project; a welding and fabricating “Team” project as part of their training at IAI.

Students complete 760 clock hours of real world, project– based training focused on practical theory and hands-on training in a state-of-the art fully equipped welding facility. The Comprehensive Industrial Welding Program laboratory totals over 26, 000 square feet of instructional space containing 36 Lincoln Electric Welding Power Sources, 36 Welding Stations, Oxygen Fuel Welding and Line Burners, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding with Pulsation, Gas Metal Arc Welding with Pulsation, Flux Cored Arc Welding with Gas Shielding, Plasma Arc Welding and Cutting, Submerged Arc Welding, Grinding Equipment, Resistance Welding Work Stations, Submerged Arc Welding Work Station, Tensile and Guided Bend Testing Equipment, Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle and Liquid Penetrant Equipment, Shears, Band Saws, and Press Brakes, Automated Welding equipment including a Lincoln Electric eCell Robotic Welding System, a Mechanized Plasma Cutting Table and a Torchmate 4400 CNC Plasma Cutting Table. Students will gain experience operating and practicing on industry standard equipment as well as some of the newest technology in the welding industry.

Graduates of IAI will receive an industry recognized certificate of completion as well as opportunity to have specific certifications registered with the American Welding Society (AWS) – Certified Welder Program -a performance-based program that provides final certifications that are “transferrable” credentials that students may take with them wherever they go. Additionally, our students will perform welding qualification testing at our Accredited Test Facility at the end of their training in accordance with the appropriate industry codes (AWS, ASME). Upon successful completion of the course and the welding qualification tests, the student will receive a welder’s qualification record reflecting the parameters for which they are qualified to weld.

CIW Students will have the potential to achieve numerous AWS welder qualification test records in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)- in all positions 1G (flat) – 4G (overhead) & develop Pipe Welding skills utilizing ASME section IX standards ; 2G & 5G or 6G. Welding automation and CNC Plasma operations will also be taught to students interested in these areas.
