Commercial and residential building construction is helping to drive the demand for qualified HVAC technicians. Helms College now offers Heating, ventialtion, air conditioning and refridgeration (HVACR) training at our Macon campus. The HVACR program will provide the student with the skills and knowledge required for entry-level employment in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration industry. The program is designed to be comprehensive in nature, including extensive hands-on training, covering service for residential and commercial refrigeration, gas furnaces, heat pumps, electric furnaces and air conditioning equipment.
In as little as one-year, you can gain the knowledge necessary to pass the EPA certification exam and enter this exciting career field. We will instruct you in the use of a variety of tools to work with refrigerant lines and air ducts such as voltmeters, thermometers, pressure gauges, manometers, and other testing devices to check airflow, refrigerant pressure, electrical circuits, burners, and other components. Students will also learn the basics of electricity, HVACR controls, refrigerants, heating systems and how to trouble shoot various HVACR systems.
To take advantage of this growing field some of the skills you will need to learn are:
- Install, clean, and maintain HVACR systems
- Install electrical components and wiring
- Inspect and test HVACR systems and components
- Discuss system malfunctions with customers
- Repair or replace worn or defective parts
- Recommend maintenance to improve system performance
