    • Be aware of the limitations of historical accounting information for decision making.

    This pattern of study is designed specifically to meet the lower-division requirements at a four-year institutions, but students should be aware that each institution varies slightly in its requirements. Students who plan on transferring to any particular college or university should consult with an advisor in order to assure appropriate lower-level courses are taken at Great Basin College. In a few cases where an institution requires a specific course that is not offered at GBC, students may need to take one or more lower-division cores at the institution to which they transfer. All the courses in this program are available in the online format.

    The program is designed to provide business students with mentoring and real world experiences of running a business. Particular attention is paid to providing managerial skills that are important for the successful performance and growth of a new venture. Entrepreneurs will become aware of legal issues, financing difficulties, and organizational issues faced when developing a business. Faculty will provide students with research abilities/experiences that will allow them to develop a network of professionals who can provide capital sources and mentoring services.

    You can earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Computer Programming. Recipients of this degree will work with data in an office setting, creating spreadsheets and databases to manipulate and analyze data. Students will create web pages and GIS maps to share data and use programming to customize business documents. Work with computer hardware and networks is also included.

    The Digital Information Technology of the BAS degree prepares students for beginning management level jobs in information technology departments of business and industry. Since these jobs typically supervise many areas of information technology this degree adds advanced level skills in digital information production, communications, and storage, graphics/multimedia, information management, networking, and office technology, as well as business decision making, strategic planning, accounting, human resource management skills, and professional ethics.

With this degree students will be prepared for entry-level work such as an assistant designer or an assistant production artist.

    This suggested pattern of study for the Associate of Arts degree is recommended for students wishing to pursue a baccalaureate degree in English or an English-related discipline. This pattern is specifically designed to transfer directly into GBC’s Bachelor of Arts in English program upon completion of this A.A. degree.

    The BA program provides students with skills and knowledge in literary analysis, composition, creative writing and cultural study. The program is designed to provide students with written and oral communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills as well as skills necessary to understand and communicate in and with various cultures.

The Professional Medical Coding & Billing online training program prepares you to fill positions for medical coding and billing professionals. GBC is an academic partner with Career Step, located in Springville, Utah, to deliver all MCOD courses online.

    This suggested pattern of study for the Associate of Arts degree is recommended for students wishing to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in the social sciences. Students completing this pattern of study will be positioned to enter Great Basin College’s Bachelor of Arts in Social Science program with junior standing.

    Bachelor of Arts in Social Science students focus on the core social science disciplines of anthropology, history, political science, and psychology. Courses in research methods, writing, ethics, and special topic integrative seminars broaden students' knowledge base while honing communication and critical thinking skills. Optional internships and the required capstone course also provide opportunities to develop skills, make connections, and apply newly acquired knowledge to professional projects.

  • Land Surveying/Geomatics

    The online Land Surveying/Geomatics (LSG) Associate of Science degree program is designed to matriculate traditional and non-traditional learners, who have limited post-secondary education, directly into a professional degree-seeking program of study. The Associate of Science in Land Surveying and Geomatics prepares the student for entry-level positions in surveying/mapping, civil engineering, resource management, and mining; as well as diverse technical opportunities within federal, state, and local government agencies. In addition to gaining technical employment, the program is also intended to provide a seamless pathway into the Bachelor of Applied Science’s (BAS) Land Surveying and Geomatics program.

    The online land surveying/geomatics bachelor degree program of applied science was co-developed by Great Basin College (GBC) and the Nevada Association of Land Surveyor’s Advisory Committee. The land surveying/ geomatics program was implemented in response to the growing need for licensed professional surveyors in Nevada to capture, store, process, and manage spatial data. The four-year bachelor’s degree program in land surveying/geomatics has served Nevada students and distance learners from around the country effectively since its inception in 2005. The land surveying/geomatics program model is ideally structured for students who are employed (or seeking employment) in a surveying or geospatial related profession that require the flexibility and accessibility to coursework delivered outside the typical undergraduate learning environment.

  • Nursing RN-BSN

    A totally online program, the Great Basin College RN to BSN is designed for non-traditional RN students with an associate degree who want to continue their education in nursing and still be engaged in practicing their profession. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc., ACEN (formerly National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, NLNAC), 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326, 404-975-5000). The program allows you the flexibility to work toward your degree full time or part time and to adapt completion of course assignments to times and locations convenient to your personal and professional lives. Direct practice in a clinical setting is not a requirement in RN to BSN Program.
