Curriculum for the Real World

Culinary Institute of Virginia is focused on providing the most up-to-date and relevant curriculum available in the competitive field of food service. Our faculty is comprised of culinary professionals who have worked in fine dining establishments, national chains, convention centers, resorts, and managed large industrial operations.

It is our mission to help you develop a strong educational foundation steeped in culinary skills, management, and hospitality. From there, you can learn how to blend food science with culinary techniques, and presentation skills to create dishes that will dazzle and amaze.

Accelerated Education

Cooking in a classroom is exciting. Cooking as professional is more exciting. That’s why you won’t spend years on end waiting for that big day. With our year-round, accelerated program, you can earn an Associate’s Degree in 1.5 years.

At Culinary Institute of Virginia, classes are small so you have more than enough time to ask questions and faculty members are always available to provide additional help before and after class.

Every culinary student caps off their education with real-world experience working with one of these partners and putting their newly-acquired skills to the test.

Career Services

Career Service Advisors are ready to provide you as much help as you’ll let them. During your Freshman Orientation class, they begin teaching you how to write a professional resume and cover letter. Later, they can help you secure a rewarding externship. When it is time to start looking for a job, you can count on them to help you polish your resume and written correspondence, coach you on interviewing techniques, and help strategize a successful job search.

    Culinary Arts, Food Service, and Nutrition

    Learn to prepare meals that keep customers coming back! All over the world, culinary professionals are behind the scenes preparing every meal we purchase. As more and more people opt for the convenience of letting others do the cooking, the need for food service professionals, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, is expected to increase over the next decade.

    Culinary Institute of Virginia offers a year-round schedule, so you can earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Culinary Arts in just 15 months. Working alongside professional chef instructors in a hands-on environment, your course work will evolve from basic culinary techniques to advanced à la carte food preparation. From orientation to graduation, emphasis is placed on the business aspects of operating a profitable kitchen, better preparing you for leadership opportunities.

If creating sumptuous tarts and clever cakes sounds like a recipe for your future, consider the Culinary Institute of Virginia (CIV), ECPI University’s College of Culinary Arts. Here, award-winning chefs with real-world experience are prepared to help you enter this dynamic segment of the food service industry.

    Through CIV’s hands-on baking and pastry arts program, you could earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Baking and Pastry Arts in just 15 months. Experienced chef instructors will guide you through the science and art of creating delectable baked items and pastries as you prepare for an intensive but exciting externship.
